    Coronavirus pandemic commonly known as covid-19 has been raging in the world for over a year now, claiming lives of several thousand people on all continents. The pandemic surprised the world both by the speed of its spread and by the high number of alleged victims. It also exposed the powerlessness of the powers to the limelight.

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19 SITUATION IN BURUNDI

    Country-Specific Information:

     

    • The situation in Burundi with regard to COVID-19 has remained relatively stable throughout the pandemic as compared to other countries in the region.  Social distancing and masks are encouraged.  There was no national lockdown and it has been businesses as normal in many areas of society.   Burundians have stopped hugging and shaking hands to some extent and many public venues have hand-washing stations installed.  Public schools have remained open as well.  Melchior Ndadaye International Airport is open to international flights and travelers since November 8, 2020 after its closure to curb the spreading of coronavirus in the country.

     

    COVID-19 Testing

     

    • PCR tests are available for travelers to Burundi
    • The cost of the test is 60,000 Burundian Francs for Burundi citizens and 100 dollars for foreigners (Euros are not accepted). Covid-19 test is available at the INSP (Institut National de Santé Publique).  There is no cost for a test carried out while in country in case of suspected COVID-19 infection.
    • If an individual shows a positive test result, he/she will be transferred to a Care Center for monitoring at his/her own expense for a period of 14 days or more and required to have two negative control test results before being discharged.

     

    COVID-19 Vaccine Information:

     

    • No COVID-19 vaccine is available in Burundi as the country is still analyzing the best option in this matter.

     

    Entry and Exit Requirements:

     

    • Beginning June 14, 2021, international travelers arriving to Burundi will no longer be required to undergo mandatory four-day quarantine.  Instead, travelers will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival and will receive test results within 24 hours of testing.  Those who test positive for COVID-19 will be subject to quarantine, but may obtain medical treatment and advice from the Ministry of Health.  Additionally, land borders between Burundi and Tanzania were reopened as of June 14, 2021, and passengers arriving by land will be tested in
    • A negative COVID-19 test is required for entry into Burundi performed within 72 hours period.

     

    Transportation Options:

     

    • Commercial flights are operating
    • Masks are required in public transport. 

     

     

    Consular Operations:

     

    • The consular section in all Burundi Embassies are operating and visas are issued

     

    Local Resources:

     

    • More information can be found on the Burundi Ministry of Health website.
    • On April 1, 2020 the Ministry of Public Health published a press release calling on the public to follow preventative measures, recommending self-quarantine if you have been in contact with a positive case, yet do not show any symptoms of COVID-19 and to call the toll-free number 117 or consult the nearest health facility, should symptoms appear.

Ce mardi 25 mai 2021, vers 19h 00', des jets de grenade ont été enregistrés dans  quatre endroits différents en Mairie de Bujumbura où se concentrent beaucoup de gens innocents qui vaquent paisiblement à leurs activités quotidiennes. Ces endroits sont, le Centre-ville  tout près de l’ancien  marché central de Bujumbura, l’arrêt bus de transport de Bwiza, la station de carburant Top One  et au quartier Mutakura 12ème avenue. Notons que ces jets de grenades se sont faits presque simultanément, ce qui démontre d’un mode opératoire terroriste.
